Hyderabad, October 28, 2016: Krishnapatnam Port, the country’s largest all-weather; deep water port on the east-coast of India has always been proactive in adopting new and innovative technologies to enhance improved efficiencies in port security and operations. In sync with the new age initiatives, the port has established a centralised, state-of-the-art Command & Control Centre. Shri Hansraj Gangaram Ahir – minister of state for home affairs – inaugurated the centre, which was followed by his participation in the sapling plantation drive, an initiative taken up by the port to make Krishnapatnam Port a clean and green port, aligning with the Swachh Bharat Abhiyan initiative.
With several close watch centres placed around the port, it is imperative to have a well-founded, centralised command centre to supervise the working around the port. The Command Centre uses the latest technologies to monitor port security and operations. Equipped with several screens, the centre displays information on a real term basis which includes – port channel and berth activity, port railway sidings activity, warehouse stock information, RFID (related truck movement container vessel throughput) and advance vehicle tracking system among others.
The honourable minister was given a detailed orientation about Krishnapatnam Port and its performance and achievements since its inception. Besides an elaborate port visit, the minister also examined the marine infrastructure from the sea side and was amazed by the infrastructure, the scale of operations, the facilities and services offered by the port.
The centre aims to harness talent in software engineering and emerging digital technologies like Artificial Intelligence (AI), Machine Learning (ML), and Robotic Process Automation (RPA).
