Range Rover is set to commence manufacturing its flagship models, the Range Rover and Range Rover Sport, for the first time in India. This milestone marks the debut production of these luxury SUVs outside the U.K., highlighting India's rising importance as a pivotal market for the brand.

Jaguar Land Rover (JLR), the parent company of Range Rover, will utilise its existing facility in Pune for production, complementing the on-going global manufacturing at the historic Solihull plant in the UK. The Indian-manufactured models will be specifically tailored for the domestic market, while Solihull will maintain its role as the production centre for global exports, including the upcoming electric Range Rover and high-performance "SV" variants.

This strategic move comes on the heels of a remarkable 160% surge in Range Rover sales in India for the current fiscal year.

Geraldine Ingham, MD, Range Rover, commented, "We are witnessing unprecedented demand for Range Rover globally, making this a historic success story. India is a vital part of this narrative, with retail sales soaring by 160% for FY24 alone. Local production of the Range Rover will enable us to meet the escalating demand among discerning customers and revered personalities across the nation."

Lennard Hoornik, CCO, JLR, remarked, "India's consistent and impressive economic growth presents immense opportunities to tailor product offerings for the discerning Indian clientele. The local manufacturing of Range Rover and Range Rover Sport in India signifies a significant stride towards solidifying the brand's position as the preferred choice in the modern luxury SUV segment."

"In 2011, JLR entered into a contract manufacturing agreement with Tata Motors to establish a manufacturing line for JLR vehicles at the Tata Motors plant in Pune, becoming the first manufacturing facility for JLR outside of the UK," the company states.

Rajan Amba, MD, JLR India, said, "This is a proud moment for all of us in India, as we become the first country to locally manufacture the iconic Range Rover. Manufacturing the Range Rover family locally will bring together the best of both worlds, as outstanding British design, technology and refinement meets the pride of owning a 'Made in India' luxury vehicle.”
