Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi presided over the groundbreaking ceremony of India's first silicon carbide manufacturing facility, set to be built in Bhubaneswar with an investment of Rs 6.2 billion. The project, developed by RIR Power Electronics Limited, a leader in semiconductor power electronics technology, will be located at the EMC Park in Infovalley, Bhubaneswar.

Chief Minister Majhi highlighted the significance of the facility, stating that it is a major milestone in Odisha's journey to becoming a semiconductor hub in India. He emphasised that the facility will create cutting-edge products, attract skilled professionals, and provide opportunities for local talent to work in advanced technology sectors within the state.

The project, expected to generate over 500 jobs across research, development, and factory operations, will boost Odisha's industrial growth and position it as a key player in the global power electronics market. The products manufactured at the facility will serve international markets, including North America, Europe, and Asia, in industries such as defense, transportation, aerospace, and sustainable energy.

RIR Power Electronics is also working on a technical and research collaboration with IIT Bhubaneswar, further strengthening Odisha's position as a promising destination for electronics and semiconductor manufacturing. This investment is a significant step towards India's goal of becoming a self-reliant hub for semiconductor production.
