With a strong focus on application-specific solutions, Industry 4.0 practices, and sustainability, GTW is expanding its portfolio to meet the needs of EVs, composites, and micro-machining. In this interview, Tosher G Hormusjee, Managing Director, GUSTI Tool Works LLP, explains plans to expand capacity, diversify tooling solutions and strengthen exports.
How is GUSTI Tool Works LLP catering to the needs of the machine tools industry?
At GUSTI Tool Works LLP (GTW), our core strength lies in the design, development, and manufacturing of precision customised cutting tools. Our portfolio includes solid carbide reamers, drills, end mills, step tools, and application-specific profile cutters—all tailored to unique customer requirements and machining conditions.
We deploy state-of-the-art CNC tool grinding technology, advanced inspection systems, and world-class raw materials to ensure performance, repeatability, and extended tool life. Our in-house R&D team works closely with customers to develop geometries that improve machining efficiency, reduce cycle times, and enhance productivity.
We serve a wide spectrum of industries—automotive, aerospace, energy, defence, railways, mining, general engineering, and precision component manufacturing. With Industry 4.0 practices embedded in our operations, GTW functions as a fully paperless, data-driven, and traceable manufacturing setup.
What is the current status of the Indian machine tools industry?
The Indian manufacturing and machine tools industry is in the midst of a transformational phase, backed by strong government initiatives such as Make in India and Production-Linked Incentive (PLI) schemes.
Demand for high-precision tooling is increasing as OEMs and tier suppliers strive for higher productivity and global quality standards. Domestically, sectors like automotive—including EVs—aerospace, and defence are showing significant growth due to localisation and technology upgrades. Internationally, India is emerging as a trusted hub for high-value manufacturing, creating strong export potential.
We expect steady double-digit growth over the next 5–7 years, particularly in sectors demanding tighter tolerances and high-performance machining.
What drives demand for your products?
Demand for our solutions is driven by manufacturers’ need for higher efficiency, longer tool life, tighter tolerances, and reduced downtime. GTW’s USPs are centred around four pillars:
This combination of innovation, speed, and reliability positions GTW as a partner of choice for precision tooling.
How are you catering to the automotive and EV sectors?
The shift to electric mobility has created new challenges in tooling—lightweight materials, harder alloys, and tighter tolerances for batteries, motors, and drivetrain components. At GTW, we have developed advanced solutions including specialised tools for aluminium and copper machining, geometries for non-ferrous and abrasive composites, and precision reamers and drills for EV motor housing and battery assembly.
By working closely with our customers, we focus on optimising cycle times, minimising scrap, and improving part quality to support the rapid expansion of the EV ecosystem.
Beyond automotive, what opportunities do you see in railways, defence, and electronics?
Each of these sectors presents unique opportunities. The railways sector requires precision tools for bogies, wheelsets, and high-speed train components. In defence, indigenous manufacturing programmes demand aerospace-grade tooling for high-precision applications. The electronics industry is witnessing rapid growth in semiconductors and miniaturised components, driving demand for micro and small-diameter cutting tools.
We are actively expanding our portfolio in these areas, with a strong focus on tight-tolerance, high-precision applications that align with India’s localisation drive.
How is GTW aligning with emerging trends like AI, automation, and sustainability?
We have fully embraced Industry 4.0 practices, with connected CNC machines, automated inspections, and real-time production monitoring. Building on this, we are now exploring AI-based optimisation for CNC programming, tool design, and faster development cycles.
Sustainability is equally important to us. We extend tool life to reduce material consumption, recycle carbide scrap, and deploy energy-efficient grinding processes. Our paperless, data-driven setup ensures 100% traceability across all processes, further enhancing efficiency and accountability.
What are your growth plans for the coming years?
Our roadmap is ambitious yet focused. We plan to:
Our vision is to cement GTW’s position as a global player in customised cutting tools, driving innovation while ensuring unmatched customer value.
