Tech giant- Google is making strides in the Indian market
with plans to manufacture drones in Tamil Nadu, as part of the Make in India
initiative. If all goes according to plan, these drones could be exported to
countries like the US and Australia, marking a significant development in
India's manufacturing landscape.
Alphabet, Google's parent company, is currently in
discussions with the Tamil Nadu government to establish production facilities
for drones. Spearheading this operation will be Alphabet's subsidiary, Wing
LLC, known for its expertise in drone delivery services. This move underscores
Google's commitment to local manufacturing and its recognition of India's
potential as a key market.
The establishment of drone assembly lines in Tamil Nadu;
Wing aims to boost its global operations and meet the rising demand for
autonomous delivery solutions in India. Already a prominent player in the drone
delivery space, Wing's expansion into Indian manufacturing signifies its
confidence in the country's skilled workforce and productive business
environment.
The Indian government's proactive measures to promote
domestic drone production have further incentivized companies like Google to
invest in the country's manufacturing ecosystem. Projections suggest that
India's drone market could reach $13 billion by 2030, reflecting the immense
growth potential in this sector.
In addition to drones, Google is also exploring
opportunities to produce Pixel smartphones locally in India. Advanced talks
with Foxconn and Dixon indicate the tech giant's commitment to tapping into
India's burgeoning smartphone market. This move not only strengthens Google's
presence in India but also contributes to the country's technological
landscape.
Google's foray into local manufacturing of drones and
smartphones represents a significant milestone in India's technology sector. It
reinforces India's position as a key manufacturing hub and opens up new avenues
for employment generation and technological innovation. As Google continues to
