December 11, 2012 - GE has announced that its Zenith Controls ZT30 UL 1008 listed 30-cycle automatic transfer switch (ATS) is now available. Designed to help maximize system availability in critical facilities, such as hospitals or data centers, the ZT30 helps to isolate a fault condition to restrict outages to the equipment affected and maintain power to critical equipment in the rest of the facility. The announcement was made at this week's POWER-GEN International 2012 trade conference in Orlando, Fla.

"The National Electrical Code requires selective coordination of overcurrent protective devices in critical facilities to isolate a faulted circuit, while at the same time maintaining power to the rest of the electrical distribution system," said Samit Ranjan, president, GE Zenith Controls. "Our ATS is not only able to withstand and close-on to a fault, but also is able to supply power to the load after a fault event."

The ZT3O also has a Quick Make/Quick Break design that enables manual operation with the door closed, minimizing the operator's exposure to arc flash. A patented shutter door also is available which, when the ATS portion of a bypass switch is being tested or maintained, covers the live bus bars forming a barrier that protects maintenance personnel.

The ZT30 includes additional features such as an interchangeable source cable termination, 100 per cent top or bottom cable entry and simple field configurable voltage selection that enable contractors to realize faster and easier installation. These customization capabilities enable design-consulting firms to create optimum system architecture plans.
