Foxconn to develop EVs for Mitsubishi

Foxconn’s electric vehicle (EV) division, Foxtron Vehicle Technologies, has signed a memorandum of understanding with Japan’s Mitsubishi Motors to develop and supply an electric vehicle model, marking Foxconn’s first major contract in the EV sector. The vehicle will be developed by Foxtron, manufactured in Taiwan by Yulon Motor Co, and launched in the Oceania region (Australia and New Zealand) in the second half of 2026.

The collaboration comes as Japanese automakers seek tech-driven partnerships to remain competitive amid rapid EV advancements. The upcoming model is expected to feature advanced driving performance and infotainment functions, tailored to regional preferences.
Foxconn, globally recognised for manufacturing Apple’s iPhones, is expanding into EVs, semiconductors, and servers. The company had earlier expressed interest in acquiring Renault’s stake in Nissan, following the breakdown of merger talks between Honda and Nissan, which were seen as a move to counter China’s dominance in the EV space.

With China’s BYD leading the world’s largest EV market and aggressively expanding globally, Japanese automakers may increasingly turn to partners like Foxconn to bridge the technological gap and accelerate EV innovation.
