EMAG is a go-to Solution Provider for Indian Manufacturing, says MD

EMAG is known for its technological flexibility and superior customer applications, and the company is constantly updating its technologies. The German Machine builder EMAG's Technology Events are organised to create awareness about the capabilities EMAG possess to bring many critical manufacturing solutions. In their recent Technology Events at Rajkot, Aurangabad & Bengaluru, they presented many solutions for Make in India - Turning & Grinding Machines for Hard Machining, components for EV Technology, and many more.

India's manufacturing sector has been growing steadily, and companies like EMAG have played a significant role in providing complex manufacturing solutions. EMAG has been a critical player in the global manufacturing industry for over 150 years, and since its reestablishment in 1952, it has been at the forefront of manufacturing turning machines. In 1992, EMAG became the first manufacturer in the world to build a turning machine with a pick-up work spindle that travelled the main axes while the tooling systems remained stationary. With its Indian subsidiary established a decade ago, EMAG has offered superior customer applications and technological flexibility to the Indian manufacturing industry.

To showcase their latest innovations to the Indian manufacturing community, EMAG India organizes Technology Events every year. In April 2023, these events were held in Rajkot, Aurangabad, and Bengaluru. During these events, Machine Maker sat down with Gururaj Patil, who spoke about EMAG's growth in India and the latest innovations.

Taking EMAG Closer to Indian Manufacturing

In January 2019, Gururaj Patil took on the challenge of bringing EMAG's technologies closer to Indian manufacturing. Despite the pandemic posing challenging times, Gururaj Patil remained determined to simplify complex machining for Indian manufacturing. "Jo dikhtha hai, wohi bikhtha hai", shared Gururaj Patil. Patil has been with the company since 2009 and believes being visible is critical to success.

Under Patil's leadership, EMAG India now boasts a full-fledged team offering the latest machines and a quick service team. We have soft/ hard turning, turn-milling, gear manufacturing solutions, grinding, laser welding, heating shrinking assembly, and electrochemical machining solutions. So we have a brilliant umbrella of technologies and update them every year,” shares Patil.

EMAG Group recently acquired WEISS and Samputensili, companies specialising in grinding gear, shaving, and more. "We have added Samputensili Machine Tools and Samputensili CLC to control the manufacturing process completely. Manufacturing starts with machining and ends with production. So, what we have at EMAG is complete control over the manufacturing. We are making it known to as many people as possible through technological events in India," adds Patil.

Technology Unboxed at EMAG Technology Events

According to Gururaj Patil, "Last year, we started EMAG Technology Events with three cities, Chennai, Pune and Ahmedabad. This year we started from West to South - Rajkot on the 17th of April and then on the 20th in Aurangabad and then now we are in Bangalore on the 26th of April." He believes spreading awareness about EMAG's offerings is essential, and he is committed to showcasing their latest technologies at these events.

Gururaj Patil highlighted EMAG's technology that does grinding and turning in one machine, which provides complete control over the process and, most importantly, the accuracy of machined components. He added, "We will showcase two machines at the Technology Events. One is VLC 200 GT and VLC 350 GT. These two machines are selling like hotcakes today. Last year, we sold one machine in India and over 130+ machines worldwide to customers like Mercedes and top OEMs."

EMAG's machines offer high control over the parts' accuracy, making them a valuable asset for the mass production of components. Gururaj Patil emphasised, "By the end of the day, you benefit the manufacturing fraternity because you sell space, manpower, and peace of mind on controlling the accuracy of the parts you produce. EMAG supports critical manufacturing solutions, so they have quite an edge if you are a mass producer of components."

Committed to Make in India

"We realised that there was a big pain point for our customers in the automotive industry, especially when it comes to making automotive camshafts lighter with cost reduction. So we discussed it with the customer and got into a technological agreement to develop the solution. EMAG was the first company to introduce this technology to the domestic and international markets. This is where our value lies", shared Patil.

He added, "Whenever we face an application area where there is the biggest headache for the manufacturing customer, wherever there is a pain for the process, EMAG should be the first to go and talk to them. In India, EMAG plans to have a technology centre to do test cutting, and their machines will do sample cuts for our customers. "We will also have a few machines for our customers so they can get their components, and if they want to do any trials, they can do that as well. This is the first step we are taking in India to bring our solutions closer to our customers," added Gururaj Patil.

"As a global company, we have recently opened up our office in the Middle East to cater to the manufacturing needs of the region. For the American market, we have EMAG Mexico, where we have expanded as a facility for assembling and supplying the machines from EMAG Mexico. We are following a similar strategy for India, and time is the answer," concludes Patil.
