Collaboration between the renowned French aerospace company Dassault and Reliance Aerospace Ltd is in progress to commence the production of Falcon business jets in Nagpur, India, by the year 2025. Originally established in 2017 to meet the offset requirements associated with the Rafale aircraft deal, the Nagpur facility has primarily been engaged in manufacturing components for fighter jets. However, there is a new initiative to assemble entire Falcon business jets within India.
In 2019, the facility achieved a significant milestone by producing its inaugural cockpit assembly for the Falcon 2000 business jet. Although the initial goal was to achieve complete assembly of Falcon business jets in India by 2022, this timeline was postponed. Presently, the joint venture is diligently working towards unveiling the first Falcon 2000 LXS jet from Nagpur in early 2025. Production is slated to commence at a rate of 18 aircraft per year, with the potential to scale up to 22 aircraft.
The inaugural shipments from the Nagpur facility will be supplied to the French Defence Ministry, which has placed an order for nine aircraft from Dassault. This development elevates India into an exclusive group of nations capable of manufacturing business jets.
Contrary to earlier speculations indicating a potential sale of Reliance's stake due to financial constraints, there are currently no discussions about Dassault acquiring Anil Ambani Group?s stake in the joint venture. Dassault, with operational facilities in France and the United States, manages aircraft assembly and completion tasks, including interior work, painting, and engineering.
In India's business jet sector, Dassault stands as the third-largest player, trailing behind Textron and Bombardier, with approximately 20 Falcon jets. These jets are highly regarded for their luxurious amenities and spacious cabins, making them a popular choice among charter operators in India.
