Commerce Minister to Inaugurate India Show in Jakarta

Mr Anand Sharma, Minister of Commerce, Industry and Textiles, Government of India, and Mr Gita Irawan Wirjawan, Minister of Trade, Indonesia, would inaugurate the high-profile India Show to be held at Jakarta, Indonesia, from 6-8 March 2012. The India Show is being organised jointly by the Ministry of Commerce and Industry; Indian Embassy, Jakarta; India Brand Equity Foundation (IBEF) and the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII).

Mr Rajive Kaul, Past President, CII & Chairman, NICCO Corporation Limited, is leading a 15-member CII delegation of high-level business leaders to Indonesia. "The 'Made in India' show in Jakarta is part of CII's endeavour to take India-Indonesia economic cooperation to a new intense level, leveraging the fact that both countries are exciting large emerging economies sharing many commonalities," he stressed. This is the second such show being held in Indonesia by CII since August 2009.

"The bilateral engagement is of particular relevance for Indian industry in the global context under India's Look East policy. India and Indonesia as two large emerging economies of Asia can lead regional economic cooperation, while expanding their economic and strategic space," stated Mr Chandrajit Banerjee, Director General, CII. The two countries are part of the India-ASEAN Trade in Goods Agreement and are upgrading their economic relationship through discussions on bilateral Comprehensive Economic Cooperation Agreement.

More than 75 top Indian companies will showcase the best of Indian goods and services at the Show. The platinum companies participating include APEDA, Bajaj, BEML, Bharat Heavy Electricals Ltd, Essar, Escorts, Fedders Lloyd, Jindal Stainless, Mahindra & Mahindra, Tata Motors, Tata Power, TCS, TVS., among others Auto parts, machinery and equipment, mining, garments, banking and others are the other sectors represented in the Made in India Show, which covers over 3300 square meters. Coinciding with The India Show, a Food Festival is also being organised with Chefs from ITC Hotels providing a taste of Indian delicacies to participants.

Bilateral trade in 2010-11 stood at $16.2 billion. During the visit of President Yudhoyono to India as Chief Guest at Republic Day celebrations, the two countries had set a trade target of $25 billion by 2015. The India Show aims to achieve this target rapidly. India's top exports to Indonesia include agricultural goods, mineral fuel products, organic chemicals, cotton, machinery, etc. India mainly imports crude palm oil and mineral fuels from Indonesia. India is the largest buyer of Indonesian palm oil, making Indonesia its largest import partner in ASEAN. The country ranks 9th in India's overall trade profile, coming in as the second largest trading partner in ASEAN after Singapore.
