CHARX – Charging technology for EVs from Phoenix Contact

Everything from a single source, from the CCS charging inlet to a charging management solution. Phoenix Contact bundles a wide range of coordinated charging technology components for both the electrification of vehicles and setting up a powerful charging infrastructure – everything under the name CHARX.

All CHARX products have specially been designed for use in e-mobility applications and are classified according to their functions in the charging process: In addition to the CHARX connect charging cables and charging sockets, the CHARX control controllers and the CHARX manage software, the portfolio has recently been extended by the CHARX power DC power electronics and the CHARX protect surge protection. In addition, the CHARX contact DC power contactors will follow next year. Replenished with numerous standard products such as energy metres, power supplies, touch panels, and industrial connection and communication technology, an almost complete portfolio is created that makes quick, safe, and convenient AC and DC charging of electric vehicles possible.

Sector coupling is becoming increasingly important for the future of e-mobility and for the transition to the All Electric Society based on CO2-neutral energy. Communication between providers, grids, buildings, charging points, and vehicles is the key factor for sustainable e-mobility based on renewable energy. This includes the integration of electric vehicles into the smart grid or smart home, efficient and user-friendly business processes, and device and patch management for charging park operators.

All these IoT applications and smart services require secure communication based on various protocols. With the new controller generation of Charx control modular and its open Linux platform, manufacturers and operators of charging infrastructure are equipped to meet these requirements.

With the broad CHARX portfolio and an extensive application expertise, Phoenix Contact provides technologically leading answers for manufacturers of vehicles and charging infrastructure. For more than 10 years the company has been developing pioneering e-mobility charging technology. Thanks to the global proximity to our customers and our active collaboration in standardization committees and networks, trends and demands are identified at an early stage and transformed into technical solutions. The Combined Charging System (CCS) and technologies like High Power Charging (HPC) have already set standards which contribute to a practicable electromobility.
