Chairman of Tata Advanced Systems urges India to seize electronics manufacturing opportunity

Banmali Agrawala, Chairman of Tata Advanced Systems (TASL), the aerospace and defence solutions unit of Tata Sons, expressed optimism about the transformative impact of electronics on the future. He emphasised India's unparalleled infrastructure in the global landscape and highlighted the exceptional public digital infrastructure that has positively affected the lives of all citizens.

Speaking at the TN Global Investors Meet 2024, Agrawala drew attention to the substantial global trade figures, with services accounting for $7 trillion and manufactured goods, including electronics, contributing $15 trillion. Despite this, India's manufacturing share, particularly in electronics, remains negligible. Agrawala questioned the missed opportunity in such a vast and promising sector.

Highlighting the ongoing global supply chain realignment, Agrawala stressed that the world is now prioritising the certainty of supply over cost alone. He identified India as an attractive destination due to its digitalisation and the enormous potential in the electronics sector. Agrawala urged seizing this phenomenal opportunity, considering the favourable tailwinds supporting such endeavours.

Agrawala emphasised the importance of developing Indian brands by understanding the entire manufacturing process, from production to design. He advocated a step-by-step approach, suggesting that mastering the manufacturing aspect precedes high-end design. Overall, he urged India to embrace this significant opportunity in the electronics sector.
