Wipro 3D develops India's first metal 3D printing machine with IISc

Wipro 3D, the additive manufacturing (AM) business of Wipro Infrastructure Engineering (WIN), and the Indian Institution of Science (IISc) have jointly developed the country's first industry grade metal additive 3D printing machine.
Wipro 3D, the additive manufacturing (AM) business of Wipro Infrastructure Engineering (WIN), and the Indian Institution of Science (IISc) have jointly developed the country's first industry grade metal additive 3D printing machine.
This 3D printing machine works on selective electron beam melting technology and offers higher build rate, better thermal management, higher part density as well as superior mechanical properties, said the company.
The machine’s benchmarking is underway and most likely to be completed in the near future, informs an official communique issued by the company.
Ajay Parikh, Vice President & Business Head, Wipro 3D, said, “The country’s first Electron Beam melting powder bed fusion 3D printer, symbolises Wipro 3D’s constant effort to indigenise, expand and industrialise additive technology.”
Even though metal 3D printing is still evolving both in India and global markets, the country is emerging as a player in application engineering for 3D-printed components and systems. Many from the industry have developed several ways and means to combined methods of metal component printing, using additive and substractive manufacturing methods. Functional metal components have a big opportunity. For instance, Wipro 3D is engaged in building certain aerospace component for India, including a thruster for a satellite engine.
