VDMA’s India Day at Hannover boosts Indo-German trade

The Indian unit of VDMA (the German Engineering Federation) hosted India Day at Hannover Messe 2019 to project India as huge market and investment destination for investments in the heavy engineering and power control and transmission technologies.
 
Hannover Messe 2019 – the world’s leading trade fair for industrial technology held from April 1-5 – received rave reviews from exhibitors and visitors. Led by Sweden, the partner country, more than 160 companies from Scandinavian countries participated in the trade show.  The show placed major emphasis on the digitization of manufacturing, as well as on human-machine collaboration, 5G, innovative and intelligent energy systems, machine learning, and Industry 4.0 and artificial intelligence – topics which pulled in the crowds. More than 215,000 trade visitors (40 per cent of whom came from outside Germany) and 6,500 exhibitors from 70 countries used Hannover Messe to catch up on the latest technologies and make key investment decisions.
 
India is thriving with opportunities in industrial value chain and manufacturing of heavy engineering sector. The ‘Integrated Automation Motion Drive’ (IAMD) forum included fluid power, mechanical power transmissions, automation and control systems, which are among the most important areas defining the efficiency of the heavy engineering and manufacturing sector. Thus, recognising the much needed value addition and technology upgradation, skill development  and focus on enhancing manufacturing partnerships between India and Germany. 
 
On eve of this occasion, VDMA India organised India Day in the Forum Motion & Drive on April 4, 2019 comprising presentation and panel discussion. The objective of the program was to project India as huge market and investment destination for investments in the heavy engineering and power control and transmission technologies and also to inform the audience on regulatory and tax reforms toward ease of doing business undertaken by the Indian government. It also aimed to provide a platform for sharing experience from both the countries of the doing business in India 
 
In his inaugural address, Rajesh Nath, Managing Director, VDMA India, made presentation on Indo-German bilateral trade in engineering sector. In his key note address, Madan L Raigar, Indian Consul General, the Chief Guest of event enlightened the audience on ‘Towards $ 5 trillion economy: Initiative from the government’. 
 
The panel discussion on ‘Towards $ 5 trillion economy: Contribution of manufacturing in India’ followed immediately after the inaugural session. The high level panellists were Christian H Kienzle (CEO, ARGO-HYTOS Group), Dr Dishant Mahendru (Director, Honeycomb Global Ltd), R Ramesh (Executive Director, JANATICS India Pvt Ltd); Ravi Agarwal (Managing  Director, Pepperl+Fuchs Factory Automation Pvt Ltd) and Harsha Kadam (President - Industry, Schaeffler India Ltd). 
 
The panellist unanimously echoed the importance of achieving 25 per cent share of manufacturing sector to the GDP from present 16 per cent by 2022. 
 
On the occasion, members of panel discussion also unveiled India Next, a Special Edition on Hannover Messe 2019 from Industrial Products Finder (IPF) magazine.
 
The last speaker of the India Day, Rahul Oza (Partner, Roedl & Partner) enthralled the audience with a detailed presentation on ‘MODIfied India: Status quo of regulatory changes and expectations’.
 
More than 50 participants from both Indian and German companies attended the event. Speakers, panellists and audience lauded the sustained effort of the VDMA India to bring Indo-German business relation in engineering sector at a greater height.
