Ircon International Ltd (IRCON), a government company incorporated by the Central Government (Ministry Of Railways) under the Companies Act, 1956 on 28th April, 1976 originally under the name Indian Railway Construction Company Ltd, is the leading turnkey construction company in the public sector known for its quality, commitment and consistency in terms of performance. IRCON has widespread operations in several states in India and in other countries (Malaysia, Nepal, Bangladesh, Mozambique, Ethiopia, Afghanistan, UK, Algeria and Sri Lanka now).

IRCON is a specialised constructions organisation covering the entire spectrum of construction activities and services in the infrastructure sector. However, railway and highway construction, EHP substation (engineering and constructions), and MRTS are the core competence areas of IRCON.

IRCON has so far completed more than 300 infrastructure projects in India and more than 100 projects across the globe in more than 21 countries.

IRCON's expertise lies in the following segments:

Railways: Services offered cover entire spectrum of activities including construction of new railway lines, rehabilitation/conversion of existing lines, station buildings and facilities, bridges, re-girdering of railway bridges, tunnels, signaling and telecommunication networks, railway electrification, wet leasing of locomotives, setting up of production units for manufacture of rolling stock, maintenance depots/ workshops, concrete sleepers and track components on turnkey basis.

Highways: For over last 20 years IRCON is engaged in execution of highways and roads of international standards both in India and abroad, funded by accredited organisations like World Bank, ADB (Asian Development Bank), ADB (African Development Bank), JBIC (Japan Bank for International Co-operation), Arab Fund for Economic & Social Development, Kuwait Fund, KFW (Kreditanstall fuer Wideraufbau) etc.

Bridge/Flyovers: IRCON's wide range of experience in constructing bridges & flyovers includes the following:

Prestressed Concrete Girder using the most modern type of launching truss – Prestressed precast continuous box girders on curve, bridges viaducts (RCC / Prestressed conc.) for Elevated portion of MRTS.

Bridge works on open foundation in rocky strata – Major and Important perennial rivers, viaducts and ocean creeks.
Bridges on Well Foundation, caissons etc with / without Pneumatic sinking.
Construction of viaducts with pier height of 70 m.
Construction of flyovers on busy intersections in India and Abroad.
Fabrication and Erection of Steel Superstructure with span length of 123 m, each span weighing 2100 MT for Ganga Bridge at Patna.
Construction of Bridges in very high terrain of Jammu & Kashmir

Buildings: Services offered cover entire spectrum of activities including construction of all kind of buildings (e.g. commercial, institutional, industrial, residential, airport hangers, station buildings and facilities, hospitals, business centers, workshops / warehouses etc.), including services like HVAC, electrification, plumbing and fire fighting etc

Signaling/Telecom: With in-house design, execution and project management capabilities, IRCON provides turnkey solutions for all types of signalling & communication projects for both railway and non-railway clients worldwide. It can design and provide systems to suit varying needs of the client, from mechanical to modern signalling. The brief is as under:

Mechanical signalling to solid state (electronic) interlocking including centralized traffic control (CTC), audio frequency track circuits, block proving axle counter, multi section digital axle counter, event loggers, hot box detectors, flat wheel detectors, automatic train protection etc. over head line communication system to digital transmission system including fibre optic based communication system and radio based communication system.

MFC: Multi-functional complexes are set up to provide passenger amenities like budget hotel, restaurant, food courts, parking, basements, shopping area (retail shops, anchor stores, traveler's shop, medical shop, ATM etc.). So far, 24 multi-functional complexes (MFCs) have been constructed at different railway stations across India.

Aviation: IRCON's diverse capabilities embrace projects for the aviation sector, as well. These include construction of runways, airport terminal buildings, maintenance of hangars etc. A major work was construction of Aircraft maintenance hangar for Air India with space

frame structure weighing 1100 MT, without any intermediate support, capable of accommodating two Boeing 747s.a
