Sam Products promotes energy efficient solutions

Sam Products was established in 1992. The company started with air curtains and slowly added products related to clean room such as air shower, laminar flow bench, pass box, etc. Customer loyalty, experienced staff, working environment, quality product, and strong feedback system ensured regular growth of the company, says Sanjay Batra, Director, Sam Products Pvt Ltd, in this interview.

How is Sam Products contributing to the growth of Indian manufacturing sector?

Indian industry has been constantly fighting against all odds, whether it was imported products or better quality products or cheap products or products through aided schemes. Yet Indian industry has survived and now is poised to be the third largest and second fastest growing economy in the world. Patience has been the key along with urge to do well or the best.

In line with above school thought Sam Products team has been constantly working to be ahead of the competitors whether from China or Europe. For example one of the products, air shower, used to be tailor made. Over the period, we have developed standard sizes. This assists the end-user (our customer) to select directly the product required, thereby saving time and ensuring better planning at his location.

What are the key trends are you observing in the industry today?

With growing awareness & increasing need of comfort, the regulator is more concerned about safety and health issues. This has changed the mindset of Indian industry. Now, the products are more individual requirement oriented; thus, encouraging innovation. The industry is not maturing as some may say, but opening more avenues with better options.

How is Sam Products helping its customers to meet their sustainability goals?

Sam Products has been associated with sustainability for long. We have been associated with our customer through ethical standards, transparency and accountability. Fair labour practices and responsible sourcing of materials are prime and foremost in our organisation. We provide regular solutions for energy efficiency to our customers. Our machines are upgraded to IE3 motors. Now, we plan to proceed to IE5 in next four months. We are more transparent in our operations.

What kinds of “Green Engineering” solutions you offer?

Sam Products promotes energy efficient solutions to its customers. This includes light weighting designs or energy savings equipment or for reducing packing waste. Since our products are directly linked to clean rooms, we assist our customer shop floors to reduce pollutions levels or maintain dust levels on their product floors. We also assist our customer to repair or refurbish products.

Customers today are more informed about new developments. There is constant feedback from customers to add sustainability into our existing designs or promote to next level of AI.

Can ‘sustainability’ be an effective brand building tool for companies?

It is the prime responsibility of public, government, environmental groups & industries to together be stakeholders to preserve the environment - whether it is resource consumption, emissions, pollution, waste generation, land use, noise pollution, etc. While the government can be a good regulator, the industry can be the key players to move from pollution control to pollution prevention. This can be achieved by implementing sustainable practices or contributing to environment conservation efforts.

Indian industry needs to use renewables, opt for 3Rs (reduce, reuse & recycle), ensure efficient disposal of waste, follow responsible production practices and engage with community. Live example today is Hindustan Unilever’s plan to achieve net zero by 2039. Today, ‘Green’ or ‘Sustainable’ is a very strong tool for an effective brand building.

How do you plan to scale up your business in the near future?

According to my father, sky is the limit, which I also believe in strongly. This holds true for any businessman. The more you indulge in your work, more satisfaction you achieve and more you wish to grow.

We have plans to invest more in automation and for efficiency improvements. As we want to explore the exports market, we will develop new products or alter our existing products. We will to go ahead with partnerships and comply with international regulations.
