SMEs should opt for step-by-step implementation of automation, says Smita Gadade

Kindly brief us about your company. How is your company serving the industry in its journey towards “digital manufacturing”?
Precise Industrial Solutions, established 13 years ago, specialises in automation and digitalisation solutions. As a Siemens channel partner since 2015, we offer a versatile range of products designed to address challenges in the realms of digitalisation and automation.

In the realm of digital manufacturing, the first crucial step involves grasping the necessity of implementing digitalisation within a manufacturing facility. We assist manufacturers in identifying this essential phase, crafting a tailored plan for their journey towards digital transformation. By comprehending the issues and challenges they encounter, we offer solutions that integrate automation at the plant level along with web-based solutions. While we have standardised modules for swift implementation, we also adapt them as needed to align with the specific requirements of our customers.

What types of automation solutions does your firm offer?
Precise concentrates on three primary domains in this context: product, production, and performance. In the product domain, we engage at the conceptual level, commencing from the design stage. Providing a virtual representation of the physical environment allows for realistic simulations and validations of products, enabling advanced simulation of entire production lines or plants before they are physically constructed. This approach significantly reduces both time and costs.

On the production front, our scalable range of industrial automation products minimises manual tasks, thereby enhancing overall product quality. Automation of repetitive tasks mitigates human intervention, reducing errors and improving process quality.

Addressing performance, we offer proprietary products and digital applications geared toward minimising production downtime. Our focus is on bolstering overall plant efficiency and assisting customers in planning maintenance schedules. By incorporating digital solutions, we aim to mitigate the risk of human errors and oversight in activities. Notifications via email or mobile devices provide prompt alerts, ensuring timely and effective responses.

High upfront cost is a big put-off for companies who intend to adopt digital solutions. Are there low-cost entry routes into digitalisation? How is your company supporting the needs of SMEs?
Digitalisation and automation solutions may initially entail a higher budget, posing a challenge for small-scale industries that are not immediately prepared to integrate these automation solutions into their systems. However, we provide our customers with smaller modules which allows them to selectively adopt specific operations they wish to monitor within their production process. For companies, the primary focus is often on profit margins and benefits. When they integrate of such automation solutions at small scale, they witness a faster return on investment (ROI). This compels and motivates them to initiate investments in automation. So, in my opinion, if you go with a step by step implementation, digitalisation is going to be a very smooth process for these companies within their budget.

How do you see the current status of the Indian manufacturing sector in technology adoption?
Automation is the first industrial revolution and forms the base of digital transformation. Businesses are increasingly recognising the significance of automation, and evidence of its integration can be observed in various plants. In India, there is a notable surge in the adoption and utilisation of these technologies. In the manufacturing sector, we observe the introduction of advanced technologies and machinery, resulting in enhanced production capabilities. Indian manufacturers are successfully producing high-quality products, positioning themselves competitively in the global market. The current adoption rate of automation is promising, indicating a swift progression in our journey toward digital transformation.

Are you looking to develop any new products/solutions?
We have a conceptual application that is now prepared for implementation. This application will digitalise the entire workflow, incorporating machine insights and overseeing the entire process—from material procurement to delivery—on a central platform. We are actively progressing toward its implementation and are in discussions with several plants regarding its adoption.
