Kobelco Construction India launches SK80 Excavator

Kobelco Construction Equipment India Pvt Ltd, a subsidiary of Japan's Kobelco Construction Machinery Co, has introduced its SK80 Excavator as part of the Centre's 'Make in India' initiative. The eight-tonne excavator was launched by Takemichi Hirakawa, CEO and MD and other senior officials at an event in Chennai.

The company operates a manufacturing facility in Sri City, Andhra Pradesh, approximately 110 km from Chennai, where it produces excavators and cranes.

"We have been supplying high-quality excavators to meet the increasing demand from Indian customers for the past 17 years," Hirakawa stated. "Our recent investment of approximately Rs 750 billion in the SK80 Excavator marks a significant step towards indigenisation."

With over 70% local content, the SK80 Excavator underscores Kobelco's commitment to the 'Make in India' campaign. Hirakawa emphasised that India is becoming a crucial manufacturing hub for Kobelco, addressing domestic needs and tapping into export opportunities.

The new SK80 Excavator boasts advanced features, including superior technology, an advanced hydraulic system, and enhanced fuel efficiency. It is versatile and suitable for a range of tasks, such as digging, lifting, and grading.
