Uno Minda Limited, a global technology company in automotive components and systems manufacturing, has announced a strategic expansion into the four-wheeler passenger vehicle seating systems segment, one of the highest-value product categories in the automotive supply chain.

To support the new product line, the company’s Board of Directors has approved the establishment of a state-of-the-art greenfield manufacturing facility in Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar, formerly Aurangabad, Maharashtra. The facility will involve proposed capital expenditure of approximately Rs 3.2 billion  and is expected to commence operations by Q4 FY2028.

The project will be executed under Uno Minda Tachi-S Seating Private Limited, a joint venture with TACHI-S Company Limited, Japan, a global automotive seating manufacturer.

Uno Minda entered into a joint venture with TACHI-S in September 2022 to manufacture and market seat recliners for passenger vehicles during the first phase of the partnership. That phase established a strong foundation, and the company is now expanding into a significantly larger product category.

The expansion marks Uno Minda’s entry into complete four-wheeler passenger vehicle seating systems. It represents a move up the automotive value chain and is expected to increase the company’s revenue potential per vehicle.

As an early validation of the strategy, the joint venture has secured an anchor customer order from a leading original equipment manufacturer. According to the company, the order demonstrates that Uno Minda’s engineering capabilities and manufacturing readiness meet the standards required by leading automakers in India.
