Nord Drivesystems has introduced a modular system featuring decentralised drive electronics and efficient motors, offering flexibility and full consistency for intralogistics applications. The system is based on the Nordac Link and Nordac On frequency inverters, which now share identical communication and safety functions, enabling versatile use.

This solution addresses challenges faced by system planners in e-commerce, parcel distribution centres, and airports, where decentralised drive solutions are crucial. Previously, varying safety and communication features in frequency inverters required additional installations. The new modular system ensures consistent functionality and simplifies system design.

The modular system includes asynchronous IE3 and synchronous IE5+ motors from Nord, with two decentralised frequency inverters at its core: the Nordac On for power ranges from 0.37 to 3.7 kW (for wall or motor mounting) and the Nordac Link for power ranges from 0.37 to 7.5 kW (wall mounting). Both inverters feature enhanced communication and safety functions.

With onboard Ethernet, the inverters are compatible with PROFINET and EtherCAT, and can integrate into fail-safe applications via PROFIsafe or FSoE. The integrated safety functions, such as STO and SS1-t (SIL3 / PLe), as well as SS1-r, SLS, SMS, and SSM (SIL2 / PLd), can be directly connected to fail-safe components like emergency stop buttons and photoelectric sensors.

For dynamic applications, the Nordac On and Nordac Link support encoderless control of highly efficient IE5+ synchronous motors. The CFC open-loop injection method provides a 150 per cent overload start-up and achieves more dynamic accelerations with short ramp times, improving energy efficiency in partial load ranges. The lack of an encoder also reduces material and installation costs.

This modular system provides greater design flexibility, allowing for easy selection between motor-mounted or wall-mounted frequency inverters. Integrated functions simplify installation, reduce wiring efforts, and streamline maintenance, ensuring a leaner system architecture with enhanced performance.
