BioReform, an AIC-IIITH incubated startup, is emerging as a key player in sustainable packaging, developing biodegradable alternatives to conventional plastic bags. Founded by 21-year-old Mohammed Azhar Mohiuddin, the company manufactures ‘Greeny’ bags using plant-based materials such as corn starch and biopolymers that decompose within months.

The startup has gained international recognition, including securing second position among 300 startups from 40 countries at a competition in Saudi Arabia. It currently operates across eight Indian metros and four countries, replacing over 15 million single-use plastic bags.

BioReform was part of the second cohort of the Atal Incubation Centre – IIIT Hyderabad in 2024. The eight-month programme provided mentorship in business development, finance, and go-to-market strategies. The startup also received milestone-based seed funding through the EPAM Social Impact Innovation Program, supporting its growth and scalability.

The company’s biodegradable product portfolio caters to sectors such as retail, hospitality and logistics. Its offerings include compostable carry bags, food-grade pouches, garbage bags, and specialised packaging for biomedical and pet waste applications.

BioReform operates a manufacturing facility in Jeedimetla with five machines and an in-house printing setup, supported by a team of eleven. Its customer base of over 300 spans both B2B and B2C segments, with presence in markets including Riyadh, Abu Dhabi and London.

The company has also received multiple recognitions, including participation in Maharashtra Startup Week 2025, Kotak Bizlabs, T-Hub, and the Zomato Sustainability Expo. It has been featured as a case study under the PLEASE Project with the World Bank and UNOPS, focusing on sustainable solutions for island nations such as the Maldives.

BioReform is exploring international expansion following the India-UAE CEPA, with discussions underway to establish a manufacturing facility in Ras Al Khaimah. The company has reached the stage of incorporation after being shortlisted among the top five startups from over 10,000 applications.

Beyond packaging, the startup is diversifying into eco-friendly solutions such as food-grade milk packaging, non-adhesive barricading tapes, and biomedical packaging using biopolymer materials. These innovations are aimed at supporting ESG compliance across industries while advancing sustainable manufacturing practices.

BioReform continues to focus on scaling its impact, measuring success through the volume of single-use plastics replaced while expanding its presence in global markets.
