ZF Lifetec opens €5 million global competency centre in Hyderabad

German automotive technology giant ZF has launched a new Global Competency Centre (GCC) for its spinoff entity, ZF Lifetec, in Hyderabad. Located in Gachibowli's Wipro Circle, the facility focuses on developing passive safety systems such as airbags, seatbelts, and steering systems for both local and global automotive OEMs. The centre emphasises software, electronics, and mechanical design innovation.

The €5 million investment in the Hyderabad GCC adds to ZF Lifetec’s network of global development centres, including those in Germany, the U.S., China, and Japan. The current team of 220 engineers in Hyderabad is set to grow to over 500 in the next five years, as the company expands its capabilities in line with increasing demand.

Telangana’s Minister for IT and Industries, Duddilla Sridhar Babu Garu, inaugurated the facility. Rudolf Stark, EVP, ZF Lifetec, stated, "The new GCC in Hyderabad represents our commitment to quality, sustainability, and innovation. As India is a growing market, this facility allows us to serve both local and global engineering needs efficiently."

ZF Lifetec is also boosting local manufacturing in India, having shifted airbag inflator production from Germany to Trichy with a capacity of 3 million units annually. Additionally, the company now produces seatbelt webbing at its Chennai and Kanchipuram plants, with a combined capacity of 36 million meters per year.

Akash Passey, President, ZF Group in India, highlighted that this centre will be key in advancing passive safety technology and meeting the needs of OEMs globally. He added, "We aim to contribute to India’s vision for 2047 by making life-saving technologies more accessible and reducing road fatalities."
