Pavna Industries forms JV with Taiwan’s SMC to boost EV and e-lock solutions

Pavna Industries forms JV with Taiwan’s SMC to boost EV and e-lock solutions

Pavna Industries Limited, a leading manufacturer of automotive components across passenger vehicles, two-wheelers, three-wheelers, commercial and off-road vehicles, has entered a joint venture with Taiwan-based SmartChip Microelectronic Corporation (SMC). The JV will manufacture electronic components for the automotive sector (ICE and EV) as well as industries such as residential and commercial hardware locks, aerospace, and medical devices.

Under the agreement, Pavna will leverage its operational, manufacturing, and procurement expertise along with its knowledge of the Indian automotive market to manage the JV’s operations in India.

SMC will bring its advanced technical capabilities, R&D expertise, and product innovation in automotive e-lock systems and EV technologies. These include motor controllers, throttle bodies, dashboards for two- and three-wheelers, EV charging piles, and electronic locking systems for residential and commercial use. With SMC’s engineering proficiency, the JV aims to remain technologically advanced and globally competitive.

Equity distribution in the JV will see Pavna Industries Limited hold 80 per cent, while SMC will retain 20 per cent.

Pavna Industries Limited, formerly Pavna Locks Limited, was incorporated on 19th April 1994. Today, it is recognised as one of South Asia’s most established automotive component companies, serving OEMs across multiple vehicle categories. With over 50 years of legacy in innovation and technology, the company continues to expand its leadership in automotive manufacturing.

Its advanced manufacturing facilities are located in Aligarh (Uttar Pradesh), Aurangabad (Maharashtra), and Pantnagar (Uttarakhand), with a new plant coming up in Hosur (Tamil Nadu). Pavna’s diverse product portfolio includes ignition switches, fuel tank caps, latches, auto locks, switches, oil pumps, throttle bodies, fuel cocks, casting components, and more. The company has a strong presence in both domestic and international markets, exporting to Italy, Sri Lanka, Indonesia, Sudan, USA, and Bangladesh, while also supplying to leading OEMs such as Bajaj, Honda, TVS, Mahindra, Royal Enfield, Ashok Leyland, Kawasaki, Eicher Motors, Revolt, Mahindra Electric, and Tork Motors.

R&D remains central to Pavna’s operations. The company continues to enhance its product portfolio, improve quality, and modernise manufacturing processes through in-house research as well as collaborations. Past alliances include Indo-Taiwan joint ventures with Sunworld Moto Industrial Co. The new JV with SMC further reflects Pavna’s commitment to technological advancement, customer-centric innovation, and global competitiveness.

SMC, with its expertise in advanced semiconductor and electronic circuit design, specialises in e-lock functions and EV-related electronic modules. The company’s contribution of innovation and R&D will enable the JV to design and manufacture high-quality e-locks, EV components, and charging infrastructure, strengthening India’s localised EV ecosystem.
