Hyundai Transys enhances quality control with proprietary AI technology

Hyundai Transys is enhancing its quality control by deploying its proprietary AI system, ‘Transys Advanced Data Analytics’ (TADA), across its production sites. TADA represents a significant leap in digital innovation for Hyundai Transys, integrating smart manufacturing technology with a robust big data platform to support data-driven decisions and employee training for digital transformation.

Key components of TADA include the TADA Smart Solution and TADA Edge Solution, both of which utilise deep learning AI to boost production efficiency and defect detection accuracy.

The TADA Smart Solution is a vision inspection system that uses AI deep learning to identify defects during the scanning process, detecting small bubbles and damage in parts. This system, trained with high-quality component X-ray images, has elevated inspection accuracy from 93% to 99.9%, catching defects that human inspectors might overlook. By July 2024, TADA Smart Solution has been installed in seven factories in Seosan and 54 processes at the Georgia Powertrain Plant in the US.

The TADA Edge Solution, a compact AI inspection system, allows for the creation and deployment of customised deep learning models directly on-site. This solution, which is one-tenth the cost of traditional AI inspection equipment, requires no extensive network infrastructure or specialised maintenance, making it accessible for small and medium-sized partners. It is currently operational at four Hyundai Transys locations in Seosan, inspecting assembly status and joint conditions.

Hyundai Transys is also leveraging AI for worker safety and environmental monitoring. Responsive CCTV systems, installed in four areas of the Jigok Plant, alert workers to approaching logistics vehicles and detect equipment damage or leaks, enabling prompt responses.
In the R&D domain, TADA AI technology has been applied to durability testing for powertrain gears. A deep learning AI measurement machine now analyses damage within an hour, compared to the previous 24-hour process, and supports root cause analysis and design improvements.

This comprehensive AI-driven approach underscores Hyundai Transys’s commitment to minimising production defects and advancing manufacturing efficiency.
