Bridgestone India empowers women in manufacturing with 93 new apprentices

As part of its manufacturing up skilling initiative, Bridgestone India has welcomed 93 female apprentices to its manufacturing facility in Pune. These apprentices are undergoing training to perform various tasks on the factory floor, including machine operation and Quality Assurance responsibilities. Their induction aligns with the Government of India's National Apprenticeship Promotion Scheme, and these dedicated female employees will work across different shifts.

Bridgestone India is committed to fostering a supportive environment for its female workforce. In this regard, the company has taken several steps, including the appointment of a full-time female doctor, the deployment of female security guards, and the provision of on-site childcare facilities. Additionally, for those working late shifts, separate transportation services have been arranged.

Apruv Choubey, Chief Human Resources Officer at Bridgestone India, emphasised the significant role that a skilled female workforce can play in India's quest to become a global manufacturing hub. He also highlighted the company's dedication to gender equality and its status as a signatory to the Women's Empowerment Principles, established in 2010 by UN Women and UN Global Compact. The decision to on-board 93 female apprentices in the manufacturing operations reflects Bridgestone's commitment to empowering women in India's industrial economy.

Currently, Bridgestone India employs 517 apprentices under the National Apprenticeship Promotion Scheme, spread across its two manufacturing plants in Pune and Indore. This initiative marks the first instance where Bridgestone India has inducted such a substantial number of female apprentices, demonstrating its commitment to promoting diversity and inclusion in the workforce.
