Agratas, the global battery business of the Tata group, is
making strong progress on its world-class battery manufacturing facility in
Sanand, Gujarat. Construction is advancing rapidly, with the structural steel
framework nearing completion.
Spread across 320 acres, the facility represents one of the
most significant investments in India’s clean energy sector, with a planned
annual capacity of 20 GWh in its first phase.
More than 2,000 construction workers and over 700 staff from
vendor organisations are currently engaged on site, accelerating development.
The pace of industrialisation marks a key step in supporting India’s clean
energy vision and strengthening domestic capability in advanced battery cell
manufacturing.
Anand Sodha, Vice
President – Supply Chain, Agratas, said, “The progress at Sanand reflects
the dedication and pace of our teams as we bring our vision to life. Each phase
of construction takes us closer to our goal of building one of the most
advanced manufacturing facilities in the country.”
Agratas is working closely with Tata Projects Limited and
Tata Consulting Engineers to deliver the strategically important facility. Their
combined expertise is supporting India’s ambition to establish and expand a
world-leading clean energy ecosystem.
Rahul Sharma,
Strategic Business Unit Head – Urban Built Form, Tata Projects, said, “Our
expertise in delivering large-scale manufacturing projects enables us to
construct world-class facilities efficiently, while ensuring sustainable
practices are embedded throughout the process.”
Alongside construction, Agratas is developing a
sophisticated and resilient supply chain, supported by advanced systems to
drive efficiency and real-time visibility. The state-of-the-art supply chain
will include an integrated sales and operations planning system connecting
demand, supply, and inventory management across imports, exports, and domestic
movements.
Anand Sodha added, “Our supply chain will provide
resilience, visibility, and speed by design. From automation to sustainable
transport, every aspect has been engineered to meet global standards while
contributing to India’s clean energy mission.”
With construction gathering momentum and supply chain
innovations taking shape, Agratas continues to progress towards its long-term
vision of supporting India’s energy transition through innovation,
collaboration, and sustainability. This progress is driven by a talented and
diverse workforce shaping the future of India’s advanced manufacturing sector,
while creating new opportunities for people from varied backgrounds to
contribute to meaningful and transformative work.
