Sony & Siemens to enable immersive engineering with new content creation system

Sony Corporation improved design productivity by 25% with implementation of Siemens’ NX for product engineering and design.
Siemens and Sony Corporation have announced a partnership aimed at introducing a new solution that combines Siemens' Xcelerator portfolio of industry software with Sony's new XR head-mounted display (HMD), SRH-S1. The SRH-S1 HMD was designed using Siemens' NX software, which is a core solution utilized throughout Sony for designing its industry-leading products.
During the Realise LIVE event in Las Vegas, Seiya Amatatsu, Head-XR Technology Development Division, Sony, highlighted the team's reliance on Siemens' NX software from the Xcelerator portfolio in developing the new HMD. The SRH-S1 features an XR head-mounted display with high-quality 4K OLED Microdisplays and intuitive controllers for interacting with 3D objects. Sony has been using Siemens' Xcelerator portfolio as its primary product engineering software since 2015, with accelerated adoption.
“Sony succeeded in implementing NX in the fastest schedule in the world and we were able to improve our design process productivity by 25%. Although significant advancements have been made with NX, I wanted to achieve further evolution with a product that brings innovations allowing direct editing in an immersive environment. I believed that could be realised with Siemens and as a result, the XR head-mounted display was developed that could bring innovative products to market more rapidly,” said Sony’s Amatatsu.
Sony's XR head-mounted display is a crucial component of the upcoming NX Immersive Designer, an integrated solution that exclusively combines Siemens' industry-leading product engineering software, NX, with Sony's groundbreaking XR technology. This collaboration aims to deliver immersive design and collaborative product engineering capabilities.

Our head-mounted display and dedicated controllers lets you create more intuitively in a fully immersive environment, allowing you to move freely between the virtual and real worlds — collaborating and creating with colleagues around the world in real time, - and it will enable more innovation,” explained Hirohito Kondo, Deputy General Manager, XR Business Development Division, Product Management Department, Sony.
The seamless integration of hardware and software enables designers and engineers to interact with the Digital Twin in new and natural ways. This interaction goes beyond simply viewing designs; it enables meaningful hands-on engineering. The image quality, precision of controls, and comfort of the headset are essential factors that facilitate collaboration, superior engineering, and faster innovation. This approach empowers users to engage in real, meaningful engineering without the need for physical prototypes.
Siemens' NX Immersive Designer is scheduled to launch at the end of 2024, with registrations open on the website. The partnership between Siemens and Sony represents a significant step towards enhancing the design and engineering process through immersive technology, providing creators with innovative tools to foster collaboration, efficiency, and accelerated innovation.
