IntelliSmart Infrastructure has announced its acquisition of India's largest smart metering project through the Revamped Distribution Sector Scheme (RDSS). The substantial Rs 20,000 crore contract encompasses the deployment of approximately 1.7 crore smart meters across four states—Uttar Pradesh, Assam, Bihar, and Gujarat.

In Uttar Pradesh, IntelliSmart has been granted the most extensive smart metering project in the country, involving the installation of 67 lakh smart meters in 14 districts under the jurisdiction of Pashchimanchal Vidyut Vitran Nigam Limited, according to a statement released on December 5.

In Gujarat, IntelliSmart has received the Letter of Award (LoA) for executing end-to-end smart metering solutions from Madhya Gujarat Vij Company Limited (MGVCL) and Dakshin Gujarat Vij Company (DGVCL). This involves the deployment of a total of 51 lakh prepaid smart meters.

In Assam, the company has secured the LoA for 15 lakh smart meters through competitive bidding from Assam Power Distribution Company Limited. IntelliSmart had previously achieved significant success in Assam by securing India's initial competitively bid smart metering project for over 6 lakh smart meters under the DBFOOT arrangement.

In Bihar, IntelliSmart has been awarded a project to install 36 lakh smart meters for South Bihar Power Distribution Company Limited.

With a project portfolio valued at close to Rs 20,000 crore, IntelliSmart Infrastructure has established itself as a prominent player in the smart metering domain.

Anil Rawal, MD & CEO of IntelliSmart, highlighted the significance of these projects in advancing power sector digitalisation globally. He emphasised that these initiatives will not only enhance the financial and operational well-being of distribution companies but will also play a crucial role in the success of large-scale renewables and e-mobility in the grid. Rawal expressed confidence in the government's belief in IntelliSmart's capabilities to lead digitalisation in the power sector, positioning the company as a preferred digital partner for utilities.

He further noted that the successful implementation of these smart metering projects will contribute to the country's net-zero commitments and support its energy transition efforts.

The installation of smart meters under the RDSS scheme is anticipated to span 27 months, with subsequent operations and maintenance expected to last between 8 and 10 years.

IntelliSmart Infrastructure, a joint venture of the National Investment Infrastructure Fund (NIIF) and Energy Efficiency Services (EESL), is at the forefront of driving innovation in India's smart metering landscape.
