India Approves Rs 55 Billion in Projects to Boost Electronics Components Manufacturing

The Indian government has granted approval for the first batch of seven projects, amounting to Rs 55 billion ($625.75 million), aimed at strengthening the country’s electronics components manufacturing capacity. The approved projects include four by Kaynes Circuits India, which will focus on multi-layer and high-density printed circuit boards (PCBs), camera modules, and laminates. The remaining projects have been awarded to SRF, Syrma Strategic Electronics, and Ascent Circuits, as confirmed by the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology.

As part of India’s growing focus on electronics manufacturing, the government has been implementing a range of incentive programmes, such as production-linked incentive (PLI) schemes and the Semiconductor Mission, to attract both global and domestic investors. These initiatives are designed to expand the country’s local manufacturing capacity and reduce its reliance on imports.

The new projects will be set up in Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh, and Madhya Pradesh and are expected to produce components worth Rs 365.59 billion. These initiatives are also projected to create over 5,100 direct jobs. The government aims to strengthen supply chains for critical sectors such as defence, telecom, electric vehicles, and renewable energy.

India’s electronics manufacturing sector has been gaining momentum as global giants, including Google (Alphabet) and Apple, diversify their supply chains away from China.

According to brokerage Motilal Oswal, the sector is expected to grow to Rs 6 trillion by fiscal year 2027, up from Rs 1.46 trillion in 2022, showcasing the rapid expansion of India’s electronics manufacturing landscape.
