Gautam Solar patents solar panel defect detection system

Gautam Solar, a manufacturer of Technically Advanced Modules™, has filed a patent for its latest AI-based system to detect defects in solar panels. This innovation integrates advanced imaging and AI technologies to enhance the efficiency and precision of defect detection in photovoltaic cells, setting a new benchmark for the solar industry. The system incorporates 100 per cent electroluminescence (EL) testing, covering both pre- and post-production stages with AI-assisted analysis.

The patent, titled ‘AI-Based System for Detecting Defects in Solar Panels’, leverages EL and visual imaging for comprehensive real-time defect analysis. High-resolution EL images are captured using an infrared camera and processed through advanced machine-learning algorithms. The system provides defect labels and actionable insights, allowing immediate identification and corrective measures.

Driving innovation
“Gautam Solar’s AI-based defect detection system establishes a new standard for quality assurance in solar panel manufacturing,” said Gautam Mohanka, CEO, Gautam Solar. “Unlike conventional methods prone to human error, this system utilises advanced imaging and AI technology to perform 100 per cent EL testing during both pre- and post-production phases. By ensuring unparalleled accuracy in detecting issues like micro-cracks, dead cells, and latent defects, we can produce Technically Advanced Modules™ with superior reliability and performance.”

“At Gautam Solar, innovation drives our mission,” Mohanka stated. “We consistently push boundaries to enhance system capabilities and explore new applications in solar technology. Our R&D efforts focus on meeting the evolving needs of the solar industry, further solidifying our leadership in renewable energy solutions.”

The system enhances the durability and efficiency of solar panels, directly addressing consumer concerns about long-term reliability. By detecting and addressing defects early in production, the technology extends the lifespan of solar panels and ensures they meet stringent performance standards. Its robust quality control capabilities ensure products meet standards, accelerating the adoption of renewable energy.

Advanced features of the AI-based system
Gautam Solar’s AI-powered solution addresses the shortcomings of traditional quality control methods, which often lack automation and are susceptible to human error. The system’s features include:
Comprehensive testing: EL imaging detects defects such as micro-cracks, broken cells, dry soldering, latent flaws, black borders, scratches, and non-functioning cells.
Machine-learning algorithms: Trained on a vast database of images, the system analyses data with remarkable accuracy.
Enhanced efficiency: Automation reduces manual intervention, improves throughput, and increases production efficiency.

“Our AI-powered defect detection system transforms the quality control process in solar manufacturing, delivering greater reliability and optimising production,” commented Mohanka. “This innovation supports our goal of building a smarter, more sustainable future for the solar industry.”

This advanced system represents a significant leap in solar technology. By incorporating real-time monitoring and AI-driven repair suggestions, it ensures early defect detection, improving the overall quality and reliability of solar panels.
