Garuda Aerospace expands defence drone capabilities with new Chennai facility

Garuda Aerospace, India’s leading drone technology company, inaugurated its Defence Drone Facility at Thalambur, Chennai on August 22, 2025, with Sanjay Seth, Union Minister of State for Defence, presiding over the ceremony. The launch reflects Garuda Aerospace’s commitment to advancing indigenous defence drone technology, reinforcing India’s strategic self-reliance, and supporting the Atmanirbhar Bharat vision. At the inauguration, Sanjay Seth unveiled five advanced UAV systems: Avalanche Victim Drone for high-altitude rescue missions, Swarm Drone for coordinated strike and surveillance, Jawan Drone for frontline soldier support, Canister Dropping Drone for battlefield payload delivery, and Droni 2.0, a multipurpose UAV for defence and civilian use. These systems address critical defence and disaster response needs.

The event also saw the launch of the Garuda Raksha Udaan 2025 Impact Book, highlighting the company’s journey and milestones. To enhance research and development, Garuda Aerospace announced a Defence Drone Lab in collaboration with the 13 JAK Rifles in Ladakh and Gwalior, designed to foster mission-specific innovation. Additionally, a Free Remote Pilot Certification (RPC) Program for defence personnel was rolled out, with the first batch of Jawans receiving certifications. The company also introduced Garuda Akash Raksha Vans (GAR Vans) – mobile units for drone deployment, maintenance, and repair across defence commands – along with free drone training programmes for the widows of fallen soldiers, underscoring its social responsibility.

Agnishwar Jayaprakash, Founder and CEO, Garuda Aerospace, stated, “At Garuda Aerospace, our mission is to make India self-reliant in defence drone technology. By 2027, we aim for India not only to be prepared for the future of drone warfare but also to set global benchmarks in innovation and reliability.”

Sanjay Seth remarked, “This world-class facility is more than a manufacturing hub; it represents an integrated ecosystem of design, research, incubation, certification, and production. The synergy between academia and industry, exemplified by Agni College of Technology and Garuda Aerospace, aligns with Make in India and Atmanirbhar Bharat, strengthening defence and civilian applications in areas such as agriculture, disaster management, and infrastructure.”

Furthering its long-term vision, Garuda Aerospace announced the foundation of a Defence Park at Cheyyur, Tamil Nadu. Spread over 76 acres along the East Coast Road, the park will serve as India’s most advanced indigenous hub for AI-driven, precision weaponised drones, fostering innovation, testing, and large-scale manufacturing for national security.
