Fronius Unveils Groundbreaking Welding Innovations at SCHWEISSEN & SCHNEIDEN

At SCHWEISSEN & SCHNEIDEN in Essen, Fronius introduced its new motto, “Connected by welding – united by passion”, alongside an impressive array of cutting-edge welding solutions and expert insights. Among the standout innovations was the Fronius Fortis—a groundbreaking series of manual MIG/MAG welding machines, setting new benchmarks for flexibility and ease of use. Another key highlight was Velo, the Velocity Assistant, designed to deliver flawless, repeatable seams with reduced physical strain, thanks to its assisted torch guidance and consistent welding speed. Fronius also presented a range of highly efficient robot and cobot applications, as well as bespoke automation systems tailored to meet every welding need. The company further marked a milestone with the 20th anniversary of CMT, celebrating the exceptional precision that continues to define this technology.

Fronius once again focused on the key drivers in the industry, demonstrating how modern welding technology can be economical, resource-efficient, and user-friendly. This is particularly pertinent in light of rising quality requirements, coupled with the shortage of skilled workers. The entire booth was a showcase of Fronius’ comprehensive expertise, from the new Fortis and Velo systems to manual welding solutions, customised automation systems, smart cobot applications, and digital assistance tools. “The trade fair was an absolute success for us. As an innovation leader, we seized the opportunity to present our new product highlights and benefits to customers in Europe,” summarised Peter Fronius, Head of System Solutions at Fronius International. One of the key attractions for visitors was the live welding stations directly at the booth. Over 600 guests took the opportunity to try Velo and the new Fortis themselves.

Fronius Fortis: Flexible, connected, powerful
With the launch of the new Fortis series, Fronius introduced a highly versatile solution for premium manual MIG/MAG welding. The series sets new standards in the metalworking industry, combining robust technology, intuitive operation, and maximum connectivity. Small and medium-sized companies with diverse welding requirements, in particular, expressed strong interest in the new Fortis. “With its various configurations and multi-process capabilities, Fortis is both versatile and future-ready. It’s the ideal, highly flexible solution for companies with a broad range of applications,” added Peter Fronius.

Technological innovation: Velocity Assistant
Fronius also unveiled the Velocity Assistant (or Velo for short) for manual MIG/MAG welding. This innovative system impressed visitors with its assisted torch guidance and consistent welding speed. Welding professionals had the chance to try Velo for themselves, experiencing firsthand how high-quality seams could be produced with reduced physical strain. At the heart of Velo is a second wire without an arc and an additional gas feed, enabling the first-ever control of welding speed during manual welding. Depending on the application, speeds of up to 200 cm per minute were achievable, much to the astonishment of those present. “Many attendees compared it to robotic systems, amazed that such speeds and precision can now be achieved in manual welding under certain conditions,” said a pleased Peter Fronius.

20 years of precision with CMT
Another highlight was the celebration of the 20th anniversary of Cold Metal Transfer (CMT). CMT remains the most stable MIG/MAG welding process, continuing to deliver unrivalled precision, stability, and virtually spatter-free results. Originally developed for the automotive industry, this technology has since become indispensable across multiple sectors, offering a vast array of potential applications worldwide. “CMT was a pivotal moment in welding technology, a breakthrough that made many other innovations possible. The extensive knowledge we have gained over the last 20 years is now continually being applied to develop more specific applications tailored to customer needs,” explained Peter Fronius, offering insight into the company’s extensive CMT expertise.

Full-service provider showcases its portfolio
The remainder of the booth also featured a comprehensive portfolio of new products, including optimised welding torches, the large Artis (TIG) and Ignis (MMA) models, the new Ignis Battery, the new Seamwelder, and the latest offerings from Fronius Additive and the Prototyping Centre—all reinforcing Fronius’ position as a full-service provider in both manual and automated welding sectors. On the subject of health and safety, the Exento Low Vac and Exento High Vac welding fume extraction systems, combined with welding fume extraction torches and Vizor welding helmets with forced-air ventilation, impressed visitors. A key focus was also placed on the training and further development of welders. Welding specialists had the opportunity to explore the features of the Welducation Simulator, which was so well-received that Fronius was awarded the IF Digital Award in silver.

Fit for the future with Fronius for 80 years
At the trade fair, Fronius reaffirmed its position as a global technology leader, demonstrating its ongoing commitment to driving the industry forward with world-first innovations. Looking ahead, the company plans to focus even more on collaborative projects and joint solutions with partners. This, along with the success of the trade fair, is only made possible by a motivated team: “Our employees are experts in their field. Each one brings a passion for welding that our customers can truly feel and appreciate,” said Peter Fronius, expressing his gratitude to the entire trade fair team, both in front of and behind the scenes.
