Renishaw to launch new radio probe at IMTEX 2019

With an eye on Indian automotive sector to boost its business in India, the UK-based Precision Technologies Group (PTG) will present the capabilities of its Powerstir range of friction stir welding (FSW) machines at IMTEX 2019, the machine tool exhibition to be held in Bangalore and organised by Indian Machine Tool Manufacturers' Association (IMTMA).

“Our Powerstir friction stir welding technologies have long been recognised as providing an innovative way of creating superior high-strength joints, with proven weld quality, excellent mechanical properties, virtually no porosity and the opportunity for reduced wall thickness in many applications,” commented Steven Benn, Regional Sales Director, PTG Holroyd.

He added, “The recent, rapid growth in the development of BEV (battery electric vehicle) and PHEV (plug-in hybrid electric vehicle) technologies has seen us receive increasing numbers of enquiries from organisations involved in the manufacture of electric vehicles (EVs). As such, we have developed FSW techniques specifically for the fabrication of lightweight, robust and highly aesthetic battery trays and housings, coolant units and vehicle body panels. We now look forward to showcasing our friction stir welding capabilities for the benefit of delegates at IMTEX 2019.”

Since their launch, PTG’s Powerstir machines have found particular favour with companies from across the avionics and high-speed rail sectors. In fact the company has built a number of 30m x 4m moving gantry Powerstir models that are used to produce what are believed to be the longest single FSW railway panel welds in China at over 15 metres in length.

In addition to friction stir welding, visitors to Stand A 116b, will be able to learn more about PTG Holroyd Precision’s gear, rotor and thread grinding and rotor milling machines, which are widely regarded as producing the world's most accurate rotors, gears and threads, as well as ultra-precise components for a broad range of industries. Sectors include heating, ventilation, aerospace, marine, power generation and high-end automotive.

Incorporating the brands of Holroyd and Holroyd Precision Rotors, PTG has established itself at the forefront of high-precision machine tool design, build and supply for specialised applications. The Holroyd range includes advanced machine tools for the production of complex helical components such as compressor rotors, pump screws and high-accuracy gears, and machine tools for friction stir welding advanced alloys used in transport applications. With production facilities in the UK, USA and China, Holroyd Precision Rotors manufactures the special purpose, ultra-precision helical components used in a wide range of industries, including refrigeration, air-conditioning, gas and vacuum pumping, industrial air handling, aerospace, medical equipment, motion control, power transmission, power generation, oil & gas, fluid transfer and high-end automotive.
