LAM Research, the prominent US-based semiconductor equipment and services provider, has shown interest in establishing a new laboratory in Karnataka, as confirmed by the office of Karnataka's Minister of Large and Medium Industries and Infrastructure, M B Patil. Patil held discussions with the management representatives of the company regarding this matter. LAM Research has been operating in Karnataka since 2000, with its Bengaluru campus focusing on hardware engineering, global operations management, and software development support. In September, the company received approval to set up engineering, research and development, testing, and tool prototyping facilities for manufacturing semiconductors and displays, with a planned investment of Rs 236 crore. Furthermore, LAM Research aims to promote the growth of Indian suppliers by establishing connections with the existing supplier ecosystem in Karnataka.
Meanwhile, US-based aerospace firm LeoLabs is planning to establish a Centre of Excellence (CoE) for space technology research in Karnataka. During discussions with Minister Patil, LeoLabs expressed its interest in integrating into Karnataka's space ecosystem and exploring opportunities in the region. LeoLabs, equipped with a radar satellite tracking service comprising 10 satellites, offers automated and independent monitoring for satellite fleets of any size, providing valuable insights crucial for the evolving space sector.
Additionally, Tsecond, a growth-stage portfolio company supported by Boeing and Solar Industries India Limited, has expressed its intention to establish a Research and Development (R&D) Centre in Bengaluru. Upon reaching a substantial scale, the company plans to venture into assembly and hardware manufacturing in Karnataka. Tsecond also aims to collaborate with clients in Tier-II and Tier-III cities within the state. Founded in 2020, Tsecond focuses on innovating technologies that transform how enterprises leverage big data for insights and innovation, aiming to enhance the value of the global datasphere by addressing the complexities of vast data generation.
Furthermore, Patil's office recently announced that Krypton Solutions, a US-based company, is likely to invest $100 million (Rs 832 crore) to establish a Printed Circuit Board (PCB) fabrication unit in Karnataka. Additionally, Texas Instruments, another American firm, has reiterated its commitment to expanding research and development activities in the state. Both Krypton Solutions and Texas Instruments held discussions with Minister Patil to explore opportunities for increased investments in Karnataka.
