Tata Boeing Aerospace delivers 250th Apache Fuselage, strengthens defence capabilities

Tata Boeing Aerospace (TBAL) has achieved a significant milestone by delivering the 250th fuselage for the AH-64 Apache attack helicopter. This accomplishment took place at its advanced facility in Hyderabad, where these fuselages are crafted for global customers, including the US Army. Notably, the latest batch of six fuselages is earmarked for the Indian Army.

This achievement underscores TBAL's unwavering commitment to enhancing India's defense capabilities and promoting indigenous manufacturing prowess. The joint venture between Boeing and Tata Advanced Systems Limited (TASL) has played a crucial role in this success story, generating employment for over 900 technicians and engineers. The manufacturing processes employ cutting-edge robotics, automation, and advanced aerospace concepts.

TBAL's expansive 14,000 sqm facility serves as the sole global source for Apache fuselages, with over 90% of the components sourced from more than 100 Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSME) suppliers in India.

Earlier this year, the Boeing Company initiated the production of Apaches for the Indian Army from its facility in Mesa, Arizona. The slated delivery involves six AH-64E Apaches tailored to precise specifications outlined by the Indian Army.

Reflecting on the year 2020, Boeing not only fulfilled the delivery of 22 E-model Apaches to the Indian Air Force (IAF) but also secured a contract to exclusively manufacture an additional six AH-64Es for the Indian Army. The projected delivery timeline for these Apaches spans throughout 2024.

Salil Gupte, President of Boeing India, highlighted the integration of advanced technology into the AH-64E, emphasising its potential to enhance the Indian Army's operational preparedness and overall capabilities. Christina Upah, Vice President of Attack Helicopter Programs and Senior Boeing Mesa Site Executive, expressed excitement about extending the world-class capabilities of the AH-64E to empower the Indian Army.
