Ansys, part of Synopsys, and SASTRA Deemed University, one of India’s leading engineering and scientific institutions, have launched the Ansys-SASTRA Centre of Excellence (CoE) for Advanced Space and Defence Technologies at the SASTRA campus in Thanjavur.

The Centre, combining Ansys simulation tools with SASTRA’s high-performance computing (HPC) infrastructure, will focus on vital areas such as structural and thermal analyses for aerospace systems, multiphysics simulations for space initiatives, and mission reliability and system safety modelling. Additionally, it will cover propulsion, materials engineering, and electromagnetics for defence communication and radar systems.

Ansys is committed to developing the next generation of engineers capable of tackling challenges in the space and defence sectors. This collaboration provides students, researchers, and faculty access to cutting-edge engineering simulation tools, offering the opportunity to work on real-world aerospace and defence projects. The Centre also supports national initiatives like Make in India, Atmanirbhar Bharat, and Gati Shakti, further developing advanced research capabilities. This partnership marks a significant step towards building a technology-driven India, ready to meet the demands of the emerging space era and future defence innovations.

“India’s aspirations in the space and defence sectors require a new generation of engineers with both deep technical knowledge and real-world experience,” said Mike Yeager, area vice president of Ansys India and Japan. “This collaboration with SASTRA bridges the skills gap, offering aspiring engineers access to world-class simulation tools and fostering innovation, while supporting national goals and global competitiveness.”

“Through our partnership with SASTRA, Ansys will empower students and researchers with access to advanced simulation technologies, allowing them to gain deep domain expertise and successfully execute projects with real-world impact,” stated Murali Pullela, regional sales director, Ansys.

“SASTRA is a renowned institution dedicated to aligning its curriculum with industry needs. The Ansys-SASTRA CoE plays a key role in providing students and researchers access to Ansys' advanced platforms. We are committed to fostering innovation and advancing expertise in space and defence technologies,” said Prof S Vaidhyasubramaniam, Vice-Chancellor of SASTRA.
