Conventional pallet racks, commonly known as adjustable pallet racking, is the most popular and economical form of pallet racking, providing safe 100% selective storage, selective racking can help fully utilise valuable air space. Pallet racking can be designed to meet virtually any pallet size or weight and can be used in conjunction with all types of material handing equipment. Wide ranges of accessories are available to accommodate non-standard pallet loads. The drive-in system provides users with maximum storage capacity using the minimum amount of space. It is particularly suited for the storage of very large quantities of the same product. This system consists of continuous rows of racking with no aisle in between. Loading and unloading are facilitated by means of stackers and forklifts, which can drive into the racks. Eliminating aisles from within the pallet racking system produces a high storage density at the expense of selectivity. The first pallet into a lane will be the last out. However, if pallets are received and dispatched in batches this is not a disadvantage. Each pallet is supported so damage from crushing is eliminated. Speed of operation is good with standard forklift trucks driving into the lanes to pick and place pallets. Long span shelving is constructively similar to light pallet racking but designed to store non-palletised goods. This is an intermediate application between light and heavy-duty applications. Long span shelving is designed for loading/unloading goods manually without mechanical equipment. Stored goods can be from smallest components to large and awkwardly shaped items.
