Variable Speed Pulleys

The Grand variable speed pulley drives convert any standard constant speed motor to a variable speed that delivers infinite speed control for any desired speed within the range instantly, frequently, accurately, and smoothly while the machine is in operation. The variable speed pulley is a double coil spring loaded pulley. This assembly comprises two facing cone shaped discs each sliding laterally on a sleeve. Through the medium of an equaliser both halves of the pulley move, which ensure perfect alignment of the variable speed belt at all speed settings. The speed variation achieved is 1:3 and in combination with various fixed pulley practically full middle speed range is covered. Variable speed is obtained by varying the centre distance between the two pulleys and modifying the position of the belt in the variable speed pulley. This has provided versatility to a machine by enabling the right speed in changing job conditions, production schedules, operation, sizes, and shapes of materials. These drives are useful in packing machines, textile machines, machine tools, printing machines, autoclaves, agitators, bottling plants, tanning drums, pumps for viscous liquids, woodworking machines, presses, conveyors, extruders, wire drawing machines, special purpose machines, biscuit and tea processing machines.
