Tempered Glass

Hardglass Industries Pvt Ltd offers Tempered Glass - an extremely strong glass which has been thermally heat treated to induce compressive stresses of 11000 to 20000 psi on the surfaces and edge compression of not less than 9700 psi. Ceramic rollers convey the glass through the furnace at speeds regulated to ensure temperature uniformity and minimal optical distortions. When the glass exits from the furnace, it is rapidly cooled by a series of air nozzles. This rapid cooling puts the glass surface into a state of compression, with the centre core in tension. In the final stress distribution, the sum of the forces in compression equals the forces in tension. Applications: tempered glass has been available to the architectural marketplace for more than 30 years and is surpassed in volume only by annealed glass. It has been used traditionally in commercial applications where wind, snow or thermal loads exceeds the strength capabilities of heat strengthened glass and in situations where tempered glass is mandated by code, i.e., safety glazing for entranceway, railings, partitions or fire knock-out windows. Although tempered glass has increased thermal resistance, it does not meet the requirements for a fire-rated window.
