Steel Balls, Pins And Satellites For Vibratory Finishing

This is specifically made for use as a polishing media in tumblers, barrels, harperizers and vibratory finishing machines. These are offered in carbon, chrome and stainless steel grades. Steel is generally associated with polishing and burnishing applications and with the use of steel media a mirror finish can be achieved. Besides, it improves microfinish for plating and other coating processes. Balls are the most common shape available. However, a ball cannot reach a comer or touch on grooves or recesses smaller than the ball diameter. Consequently, pronounced lines of demarcation become apparent on some parts, where surfaces on which balls cannot make contact receive no finishing action. Satellite shaped steel media is the answer to the above problem. The centre flange and tapered crowns provide contact in grooves, angles and curved surfaces. In some applications, balls and even satellites cannot reach the filigrees or engravings on detailed parts. For this, pins have been developed in double taper cut ends to reach into these intricate areas. The resultant ball, satellite and pin mixture is ideal for burnishing applications using steel media.
