Rock Breaking Without Dynamite

Cardox India offers a system for Breaking Rocks Without Dynamite. The Cardox System is designed to break or aerate materials by discharging carbon dioxide at high pressure into the material. In order to operate the system in any material a range of tubes is available; in turn, these have a range of discharge pressures. The combinations of various tubes, discharge pressures and chemical energisers (heaters) allow over twenty different discharge characteristics. This gives flexibility to the user and a particular installation is not confined to a particular application. Originally developed in fiery coal seams, the Cardox System is used to break rock, concrete and many other materials expeditiously, with the complete safety and without any adverse effect. Cardox produces instantaneously a powerful heaving force, using carbon dioxide that cracks and breaks the material along natural or induced fracture plains and heaving it away from the main mass of material. Cardox is not classed as explosive or even dangerous goods by United Nations or by UK Health and Safety Executive and Indian explosives department, and as much there are no permits required for its storage, transportation or handling. Cardox tubes are approved and certified under the European Pressure Vessels Directive (PED) and thus are authorised to carry CE marking. How it works: one or more holes are drilled in the rock and the filled Cardox Tube(s) inserted. A connection is made from the tube to a hand held activating machine and on passing an impulse to the tube, a tension electric fuse initiates a rapid reaction in the tube causing the liquid CO2 to pressurise. This instantaneous build up in pressure reaches a yield pressure of the rupture disc which bursts releasing a heaving mass of CO2 expanding to 600 times its original volume, which breaks the surrounding material. The whole process takes less than one second. The pressure Cardox tubes generates can be regulated between 2800 bar (40000 psi) to 1200 bar (18000 psi) by selecting the thickness of the rupture disc. The Cardox tubes are used over and over, the energizer and rupture disc being replaced after each use.
