Texmaco, a Dr K K Birla Group company, founded in 1939 and located on the outskirts of Kolkata, is renowned as a multi-unit engineering complex in the field of infrastructure. The largest freight car maker in India, the company has a proven track record of assured delivery and quality of both conventional and custom-built wagons. One out of every four wagons on the Indian rail network has been rolled out of Texmaco works. It has earned strong credentials in the design and manufacture of special purpose wagons for core sectors like steel, cement, aluminium, oil, chemicals, fertilizers, thermal power projects, defence, foodgrains and others. It pioneered the export of wagons in the mid-sixties and secured prestigious contracts in global competition from European, African, Southeast Asian and Bangladesh railways. Texmaco’s forte is its integrated facility comprising of a state-of-the-art steel foundry equipped with a fully automated high pressure moulding line and sand plant supplied by the world-renowned Kunkel Wagner of Germany for production of high-tech, intricate heavy-load carrying railway castings. The company is aiming to be a major player in the multi-bilion dollar “Dedicated Freight Corridor” planned by the Indian railways through its technology upgradation and strategic tie-ups with the world leaders.
