Motor relay tester

The Southern India Textile Research Association (SITRA) from Coimbatore, has recently launched a versatile motor relay tester that serves as an important preventive maintenance tool for inspection and/or replacement of over load relays. The tester, consisting of a high current power source with low voltage, an ammeter and a timer, is basically used for testing over load relays. It allows the possibility to compare current-time characteristics with the manufacturer?s recommendation. The portable tester is readily available for 'on-the-spot measurement' and the self-contained testing device ensures easy operation and effective testing. The motor relay tester is basically a secondary current injection-testing device and the primary voltage controlled by a variac allows required current flow in secondary, wherein a calibrated ammeter of good accuracy class is connected with the over relay under test. The over load relays and circuit breakers are tested by the passage of specified over current through the heater or over load coil followed by observation of time required for it to trip. The actual tripping time is compared with the manufacturer?s current-time characteristics.
