Chennai-based Southern Industrial Corporation manufactures flexible shaft machines that have sturdy construction and dynamically balanced pressure die cast rotor. These easy to operate machines have continuous duty rating and are available for operation in single phase and 3 phase power supplies. These have optimum cutting speed under varying load conditions due to constant speed characteristics. These suffer from only less than 5 percent RPM drop from no load to full load conditions. These result in high productivity due to continuous rating, constant speed operation, and minimum operator fatigue and minimum downtime. Low maintenance cost is due to absence of frequent armature burn out or carbon brush cleaning/replacement problems. These compact and portable units have easy accessibility to remote and restricted areas of job due to the separation of tool from drive machine. Various models are available with speed ranging from 2,800 to 12,000 RPM. The range of maximum wheel size is from 5 diameter and 5/8 width to 8 diameter and 1 ? width. These are available in wide range of power-output and speeds to suit every application and grinding media. Flexible shaft machines find applications in die grinding, rasping, buffing, polishing, heavy grinding and heavy fettling.
