Ex-Proof Proportionals for Hazardous Applications

Ex-proof proportionals with “on-board” electronics the dream of hazardous system manufacturers

Oil & gas, energy industry, chemical plants and mining are subject to international laws for each classified hazardous areas according to International safety prescriptions.

Atos has recently widened its comprehensive range of ex-proof proportionals by introducing the new on-board digital drivers and controllers on directional (1), pressure (2) and flow (3) controls, with or without integral ex-proof transducer.

The integration of digital electronics on ex-proof valves has performed higher dynamics and accuracy, compact execution, simplified wiring, improved reliability, software setting of functional parameters and complete diagnostics.

Ex-proof valves with on-board electronics are also available in “motion control execution”, that is equipped with integral axis controller providing the functions typical of axis card. They are smart units performing position closed loop control of any linear or rotative hydraulic actuator equipped with a remote ex-proof position transducer. In addition pressure or force loop regulation could be added to basic position control in connection with pressure/force transducers installed in the system.

New ex-proof digital proportionals allow the leading OEMs to simplify their systems and installations and to enhance performances by taking on the topical technology of the standard industrial automation market.

New ex-proof drivers and controllers are certified for surface applications to ATEX directive 94/9/CE, protection mode Ex II 2 G Ex d IIC T6, zone 1 and 2.

The valve’s functional parameters can be set and optimised to the application through Profibus-DP or CANopen fieldbus network.

The Atos PC Software coupled to its Fieldbus-USB adapter allows to safely access the valve from the plant cabin, to easily configure the valve’s driver, to command the digital controller and to check the full axis diagnostics.
