HEF India Private Limited offers Arcor Treatment for Wear/Corrorion Resistance. Arcor is a treatment which combines thermochemical diffusion in molten salt bath with a passivation and finishing treatment to produce a surface having exceptional resistance to wear, seizure, scuffing, corrosion and fatigue. The treatment produces a duplex surface layer (compact and porous areas), consisting nitrides and Fe, C, N compounds, the depth of which is dependent on the composition of the substrate. For some types of Arcor, oxides (Fe3O4) and Fe, O, N compounds are also present in the superficial layer. Finishing treatments are of impregnation type with organic compounds. In certain specific instances, impregnation may be combined to a particular surface finish. Beneath the surface layer is a deep zone of nitrogen diffusion, the hardness and depth of which will depend on: the alloy content of the substrate; time and temperature of the diffusion. Properties of the Arcor treated components: corrosion resistance – obtained by combination of passivation and finishing treatment is significantly superior to many conventional anti-corrosion coatings (chromium, nickel, zinc). Corrosion resistance may exceed 700 hours in salt spray test on simple parts and reaches easily 400 h on components having welded or crimped assemblies; resistance to wear and seizure – the hardness of the compound layer from 600 to 800 HV allows to effectively overcome the problem of wear. Impregnation and surface finish lead to a notable decrease of the coefficient of friction; and resistance to fatigue – significant and important increase in fatigue strength is obtained thanks to the compressive stresses created in the nitrogen diffusion zone. Examples of industrial applications: Arcor is an alternative to traditional coatings such as nickel, chromium, cadmium, zinc, etc., when both problems of wear and corrosion must be solved.
