Polytronic Corporation was founded in 1963 to develop and produce laboratory equipment and power supplies for colleges and universities. It was the first commercial firm to manufacture `H’ frame research electromagnet. The development of impulse magnet charger product line led to design of its magnetising, demagnetising and magnet treating products. This reliable product line was first adopted for cast magnet. The company then broadened its product offering for ceramic and rare earth magnets. Over years its focus has been on electromagnets and magnetic measuring equipment. The company offers a range of electromagnets. Basic specifications: field intensity – 5000 gauss with an air gap of 10 mm with flat pole pieces and 7000 gauss with tapered pole pieces; pole diameter – 30 mm (flat pole pieces supplied with the electromagnet); air-gap – continuously adjustable from 0 to 40 mm with two way knobbed wheel screw adjusting system; coil separation – 40 mm; yoke construction and material – `U’ shaped made out of Tata special `A’ grade soft iron; number of energising coils – two wound on non-magnetic formers; cooling – air-cooled; and optional accessories for 30 mm electromagnet – type TPP-30/10 tapered pole pieces (tapered to 10 from 30 mm).
