The new GMC 20 stands out with make-ready times reduced by up to 65% The new 6-spindle lathe GMC 20, which DMG had presented at the EMO 2009 in Milan as a world premiere, offers a complete service package for precision machining of workpieces with diameters up to 25 mm. The high degree of flexibility of this new multi-spindle lathe makes it ideal for machining a wide range of batch sizes from medium volumes to series production. One of the outstanding features of the new GMC 20 is its high level of productivity, which is unique in the area of CNC multi-spindle machines due to the fast cycle times that can even bear comparison with cam-controlled lathes. As the lathe does without cams, special tools and mechanical equipment in favour of CNC-controlled processes, it achieves considerable reductions in workpiece costs and total cost of ownership. The spindle drum is locked via a Hirth tooth system during the multispindle machining process, ensuring maximum stability and precision positioning in the ?m range. Furthermore, five CNC compound slides for radial, longitudinal and contour turning make a highly flexible machining station for rear machining and front slides. This flexibility can be optionally enhanced by independently controlled front slides, U-axis, and milling and drilling devices to adapt it to the customers’ range of components, such as from the automobile industry.
