It imparts high brilliance and luster and high stability against deformation under stress by reducing the coefficient of thermal expansion. It acts as a replacement flux for the more soluble constituents providing a viscosity curve of lower slope. It is as substitute for BaO and PbO to decrease the specific heat and increase the conductivity.
