The design of profiles plays an important role in the efficacy of the roofing system. A roof sheet is an important structural member that undergoes tensile and compressive stresses due to the action of load combinations dead & imposed as well as dead & wind. When considered with the effect of "hogging" moment at continuous supports (purlins), the capacity of the profile to withstand such reversing bending moment gains paramount importance. These roof profiles are invariably designed with corrugations or stiffening ribs on the lower tension face to impart rigidity for moment resistance under reversing stresses.
